STRACON, INNOVATION AND INCLUSION FROM THE PRE-MINING STAGE AT QUELLAVECO
Together with our client Anglo American, we have been developing the pre-stripping or pre-mining work at the Quellaveco project. The objective of this work is to excavate 45 million tons of waste over a one-year period. Thus, the mine will be ready and prepared for copper extraction.
Since 2018, our client has placed its trust in the work we are doing at the Quellaveco project, especially generating opportunities for women in Moquegua with the training program to become 300-ton truck operators. Currently, they operate 100% manual trucks, which are loaded with 36 and 60 m³ bucket capacity shovels.
We also worked on the “Upskill” program aimed at all the people of Moquegua who accompanied us in the start-up of the construction of the access roads and mine development. Today, larger or so-called “large mining” equipment such as crawler tractors, wheeled tractors, motor graders and auxiliary equipment for road wetting are in operation.
Finally, the operation of the first electric shovel at Quellaveco, together with modern cable management equipment, brought with it the start of the operation of autonomous trucks also of 300 tons, which interact with the trucks operated by women of the operator training program within the mine.
